The Prince
“Van Hoy never relents, refusing to let viewers get comfortable, and keeps them on the edge of their seats.” - Kyle Bain, Film Threat
“Flinch is a crime thriller that channels the greats from the past while simultaneously forging its own path.” -GoodBad Flicks
“Van Hoy displays the kind of patience, spatial awareness, and narrative control of someone with more feature experience, resulting in a crime thriller with enough surprises to keep you locked in.” - Douglas Davidson, Elements of Madness
A neo-noir crime thriller about a hitman who falls in love with the witness to a murder he commits scored with synthwave and set in a crime ridden Los Angeles.
Morality isn’t black and white, it’s shades of grey.
The look of Flinch
We shot Flinch mostly at night, so we could control the light and the mood of the film. There is a lot of production value that can be gained from light alone. We wanted to embrace the loneliness of Los Angeles and our central character by juxtaposing large, empty spaces with close looks at our characters. Cinematographer Kai Saul was a pleasure to work with. He took care to make sure every source of light was under his thumb.
The Cast
The cast of Flinch is a diverse combination of legends and young guns. For the role of Doyle, our protagonist, we went with Costa Rican actor Daniel Zovatto. Zovatto has had a wonderful career so far, leading in multiple hit films and TV shows. He brings weight, honesty and emotional availability. Opposite Zovatto stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, a young actress who has also been working at the top of her game. We needed an actress who could be incredibly vulnerable yet strong at the same time. To round out the cast we chose legends like Academy Award nominee Cathy Moriarty, who delivers one of her best performances in years, crime genre staple Steven Bauer, break out bad boy Buddy Duress and one of today’s hottest comedians Tom Segura.

Tragedy Girls
A horror comedy about two young high school girls who just happen to be serial killers.
Tragedy Girls is widely considered one of the top 10 best horror comedies ever made. It’s always named on the top horror movie publications as a must watch film. We shot the movie in Kentucky, where we had to fly in ninety percent of our cast and crew. The film was prosthetic heavy, all of your gags and stunt performers were brought in to the little town we were filming in. The film premiered at SXSW to rave reviews . Indie Wire named it one of the top five best of the fest. The film went on to get a theatrical release before finding a home on Hulu. I’m very proud of the work I did on this film as producer and owner of Ardor Pictures. We executed the vision we set out to achieve.
The Cast
Very proud of the cast we put together on Tragedy Girls. Personal relationships were in place with actors like Craig Robinson, Josh Hutcherson and Jack Quaid, but we knew we needed our two female leads before we could go to any of them. With the help of out casting directors we put together a genre, horror comedy dream team.
